Promotional Umbrellas and Why Wet Business People Just Aren’t Cool

Growing up in California the idea of promotional umbrellas was quite foreign to me. In fact I don’t think I ever picked one up until I moved to England and needed one regularly. It is with this is mind that I would like to tell you a true story about a meeting I attended where – to put it mildly – I failed to impress.

It was lightly raining when I left my house that morning but the tube stop was literally next door and I ran to catch the train. Upon arriving at my destination, the mild rain had turned to a heavy downpour and all the seasoned Londoners reached for their umbrellas. I never thought to bring one.

Looking at my London A to Z map I could see that the company I was meeting was about a ten minute walk and there weren’t any taxies to be seen. Luckily there was a shop outside the station that was selling cheap umbrellas and I bought one.

Now you might think that my problem was solved but it was only really just beginning. I walked toward my meeting and as I did the wind began to pick up. WIthin minutes I was left standing broken umbrella in hand – completely drenched.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I arrived at my meeting very wet as if I had decided to go for a swim in my suit and my bag of samples wasn’t much dryer.

To make it all worse, two salesmen from a competing firm showed up right after me completely dry, with a very professional appearance. I knew they were competitors because they both held top quality storm umbrellas that had been printed in full colour all over the canopy with their logo and products.

I recently received a new and innovative promotional desktop gift in the form of a Koziol pen pot. Within two minutes of placing it on my desk I literally had two colleagues trying to steal it from me.
