Using The Right Keywords Helps People Find You Online

Sunday, April 10th, 2011

If your online marketing efforts have consisted only of an occasional newsletter or email advertisement, you probably aren’t getting the results you would like. The good news is that once you get in the habit of sending newsletters on a regular basis, it’s only a small jump to blogging. Adding a blog to your site is probably the most valuable investment of time you can make in your business.

One of the most important aspects of a business blog is that it results in a great deal of content on your site. Even if you don’t consider yourself a writer, making regular (if not daily) blog posts will not only increase your site’s rank, but will also provide more opportunities for people to find you. By adding new content to your site on a regular basis, you will help your site place higher in search engine results. This means that your website won’t be buried under dozens of other similar results.

To maximize this effect, be sure to use the correct keywords in your blog posts. The correct keywords are the ones that people are typing into the search box when they search for a particular product or service. Using the Google keyword tool or one of the many keyword finders on the market, you can find not only the most searched-for terms, but also any related terms that people enter. By using these terms within your blog posts, you can increase the chances that a searcher will find your blog post in the results

Remember to use keywords and phrases naturally within the text. Overusing keywords or repeating them until the material sounds artificial is known as “keyword spamming” and can have a detrimental effect. Search engines are sophisticated enough to know when the text is naturally full of relevant information and when keywords are being used simply to bump up ratings. Blogs and websites with more relevant information are the ones that will be returned in the search results pages. The more relevant information you have, the higher your site will rank and the greater the likelihood that people will visit your site.

At CompuGift we can help you market your business.  We have vast experience in blogging, search engine optimisation, social media and of course, promotional gifts.

5 Ways to Promote Your Blog With Other Social Media and Networks

Monday, December 20th, 2010

These days if you want notice and recognition you have to put your name out into the Internet. The Internet has quickly become one of the most powerful tools for just about anything you can image. You can find old friends, pay bills, purchase items, read the news, watch movies, and now companies are using it to bring in more business.

Having a blog is also a tool companies use as a way for customers, clients, and potential clients to get a more in-depth and personal view of the company itself. Therefore, you’ll want to make sure that people know that you have a blog. You can use other social media and social networks to do just that.

One way to promote your blog is through the ever popular Facebook. Nearly everyone and their mum has a profile on Facebook. For businesses it’s an excellent way for people to get a general idea of your company, what you do, what you can deliver, and your goals. You can also include links to your blog, something readers are sure to click on if they find your profile interesting enough.

Online multimedia is another great tool to use. Rather than using words, you can use pictures instead to advertise your company. Instead of telling people about your company, you can show it to them as well with websites like Flickr, YouTube, and SlideShare. Just make sure that you leave them wanting more so that they’ll be sure to explore your blog.

The utilization of podcasts can be another great way to promote your blog. For example, if your business sells promotional gifts you could have a podcast that discusses good promotional gift ideas. At the end of the podcast you could advertise that they visit your blog for even more ideas and information about your business. Another option is to be a guest speaker on an already well-established podcast.

Microblogging sites like Twitter are a great tool to use to get people salivating for your main blog. Update about current projects, sales, and upcoming events.

Using review and opinion sites are a great way to not only show your company in a positive light, but a great way to lead readers to your blog as well. Be sure to point satisfied customers and clients toward Customer Lobby and Yelp to give your business a good review. You can also ask them to include a link to your blog for more information about your company.

Good luck!

Promoting Your Business with Promotional Gifts and SEO

Promotional House shaped paper Clip Dispenser

Promotional paper clip dispensers are very popular desktop gifts

Most marketing professionals will agree that the best way to brand your business and attract new clients is through a good balanced approach to search engine optimisation (SEO). Ranking high in the search engines is essential to the success of businesses large and small. Getting to the top of the search engines could take some time. It is therefore essential to promote your business in other more traditional ways to ensure your brand grows. Using good quality promotional gifts and starting and maintaining proper SEO on your website will help build your brand over time.

These two marketing methods go hand in hand. Search engine optimisation, however, is a lot more secretive but the information you need is a lot easier to find than it used to be. Many excellent books and indeed blogs on the net are full of great advice and I strongly recommend that you explore this complex way to promote your business. Learning what the search engines are looking for is essential because it is the same thing your customers are looking for: an excellent and hassle free shopping experience.

You really should do your own search engine optimisation because no one knows your business like you know your business. It is also very time consuming so unless you have a gigantic budget you will probably want to do it yourself anyway. I personally spend at least six hours every day optimising my sites.

Promotional gifts, on the other hand, are best left to independent promotional gifts suppliers like CompuGift Limited. There are a few larger promotional gifts suppliers still around but their numbers are dwindling. Such promotional gifts industry dinosaurs are really from a bygone age. Purchasing business gifts from large top heavy companies will be a lot more expensive because they have much higher overheads which someone needs to pay for. Hopefully not you!

Times are changing and marketing is changing. The more you can do in house the better. Using smaller, faster and less expensive internet based promotional gifts suppliers like CompuGift will help keep your marketing expenses to a minimum.

While you are waiting for you search engine optimisation efforts to bring excellent results, promote your business with promotional gifts such as the popular desktop gifts like mugs, mouse mats, digital photo frames, pen pots, clocks and promotional calculators. Using Good SEO and top quality promotional gifts, the kind or gifts your customers will want to own, will help build your brand.

How to Make Your Small Business Big Fast

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010
Woman on blocks

CompuGift can help you build your brand!

Small business is the new big business. If you want to take your industry by storm then the last thing you want to do is copy what your larger competitors have done. Many of them operate in a way that worked fine ten years ago but we are working in a new age now.  You can have all the benefits of being a large business while still incorporating what is so great about the hands-on, customer led qualities that smaller businesses have.  In this article I would like to offer you a few hands-on tips on how you can be a major player within your industry and become the company internet searchers want to deal with.

Answer the Phone

Many larger businesses have delegated this to untrained individuals who do not know their products and cannot or do not have the authority to answer simple questions.  If someone phones your sales office after finding you online and gets a poorly trained person who cannot answer their questions, then you are wasting that person’s time and possibly losing a new good customer.  When possible, management should answer the sales line or at least be in the same room.   If that is not possible, and I sincerely hope it is, then by all means make sure that the person answering the phone can answer 99% of the questions asked about your products and/or services.

Do Your Own Blogging and Article Marketing

Article marketing and blogging now plays a very important role in promoting your brand.  You may not always have time to write but ensure it is done either by the company directors or someone who knows your products and services inside and out.  It is great to train a group of individuals who can properly represent your business in words.  Recently, I have found that a lot of my own articles have been plagiarized and re-written by people who often have a poor command of the English language.  They change the keyword rich articles so that they no longer make any sense and then point them at their clients, my competitor’s sites.  These black-hat search engine optimisation tactics may do these businesses some good in the short run but in the end, they will lose. Take this very important part of branding new businesses very seriously and ensure that you know what is being written on your behalf.  Better yet, write your own blogs and articles.

Do Your Own Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

There is a reason why the search engines want and promote properly optimised sites.  These sites offer the viewer a much better shopping experience.  Personally I now spend at least six hours on SEO every day. It is not difficult but it is one of the most important things you can do for your business.  There are numerous books and online resources where you can teach yourself how to properly optimise your site and I recommend you do.

The above advice is time consuming and perhaps a bit dull but no one knows your business like you do!

Use Promotional Items to Build Your Brand

The easiest part of building your brand is using a tested and proven means of brand building which is giving your target customers promotional items printed with your logo and contact details. Look for items that your customers will want to own and use. Every day products such as promotional pens, printed mugs, logo printed note pads and colourful mouse mats are all brilliant promotional tools that will reinforce your brand and make it easy for your customers to find your information.

Blogging and Promotional Gifts are the Perfect Pair

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Blogs have played an incredible role in re-defining companies when used in successful ways. To make your company blog a success and not a flop, be sure to have a strategy in place. This article will discuss 5 ways your company can host a perfect blog that builds customer loyalty, encourages online brand awareness, and ultimately increases the profitability of your company. The key to a successful blog strategy is using promotional products as a nice, sharp compliment to the blog!

1. Reward Customer Opinions and Input
Some of the major automobile companies in the world are still thriving, because they have an amazing online presence. These auto companies have kept from failing, because they have created blogs that reward customer suggestions and input. Every day, create a blogpost that inspires your customers to think about one aspect of your business. Simply have customers comment on blogs you create at sites like Blogger.com or WordPress.com. Whether you are thinking about the name of your blog or the name of a new product, get your customers involved and reward them with a cool promotional product. Customers will have an incentive to return to your company’s blog and offer future suggestions, if they continue adding their input and receiving promotional gifts. Fun, light-hearted promotional gifts like stress toys can be a great way to motivate customers’ creative ideas!

2. Adding Podcasts to Your Blog
After you have set up a company blog, it is not a bad idea to find a way to include podcasts on the blog. Invite your best customers for an interview on why they love your business. Then, place recorded customer input on your blog for the world to discover! A nice way to thank customers for doing a podcast interview is by sending them a gift basket filled with promotional products featuring your business information or logo. A gift card to your company, along with a promotional coffee mug set and pen set, is a great gift idea!

3. Scattering Links
Be sure to scatter links throughout a company blog to keep your customers interested. Include links to information that is valuable for your customers, whether it is your company’s latest new product or a news article that directly impacts your business. Also, you may want to host a blog contest offering promotional gifts like sports bags or mouse mats to the people that link the most to your blog!

4. Keep Posts Short and Generate Online Buzz with Contests
Keep blogposts short and seek to instantly capture your audience’s attention. If you are hosting a giveaway or contest, be sure to keep the rules or guidelines very short and direct. Be sure to offer a gift for customers’ time spent within a contest, even if it is just signing up for the contest. Promotional products such as sweatshirts and t-shirts are fantastic ways to motivate customers!

5. Use Catchy Headlines and Keywords
Your business should definitely seek to discover which keywords are most searched for when finding your business’s online website or blog. Perhaps you own a hotel business in an exotic location. If “exotic” is one of the most searched for terms, then be sure to write many blog posts with a headline that contains the word “exotic.” Headlines can be an influential way to gain online traffic in a short amount of time!

With these 5 tips, your company is on the road to success for hosting a blog that will be loved by your customers. Keep the content professional and make reading blogposts fun for customers by hosting contests with promotional products. You may gain a whole new customer base with these 5 tips!

Have you ever tried any of these marketing strategies? Did they work for you. Do you have any other ideas you can offer?  Please do.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

3 Fun Ways to Promote Your Blog

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Want your blog to have the latest edge? Then try using promotional products to increase traffic and gain a whole new audience. As a blog owner, I understand how difficult it can be to gain readership for your blog or a company blog. I also understand ways to solve that problem and get readers interested in your blog. Following these 3 tips, your blog will become one of the most widely read and linked to blogs in the informational online world.

1. Engaging Readers’ Comments with Promotional Products
Offering readers an incentive for reading your blog is a great place to start in increasing readership. You may think your blog is interesting by itself, but have you considered there may be thousands of other blogs just like it? Readers need a reason to think your blog is highly identifiable and unique. Try creating engaging blog posts, and offering a promotional product to the reader that offers the “best” comment on something. Perhaps your blog is humour-based. Then, offering a prize to readers that submit the best joke of the day is a great way to get readers’ creativity flowing and coming back to your blog for more.

2. Offering Promotional Products for Linking
Linking is very important for the success of any blog. If five people link to your blog, then that may open up the possibility for fifty more people reading your blog. After that, hundreds of people may link to your blog from those fifty. Get the picture? A few links can lead to thousands of links and have a viral effect. So, encourage blog readers to link to your blog to earn a promotional product. Blog readers typically love desktop gifts, since they are always scouring the internet for information from their desk. Try offering a paperweight, paper tray, pen, or mouse mat to the first 100 readers that link to your blog.

3. Blog Review Promotional Desktop Gifts
Be proactive with your blog, rather than sitting back and letting people come to your blog. Offer a promotional desktop gift to any reader that writes a complete review of your blog. Whether the review is positive or negative is irrelevant, since the main purpose is getting publicity. If readers have the feeling they can earn something by writing a review, then they will be more likely to write a great review of your blog.

These 3 tips are sure to make your blog the hottest place for information on the web. Follow them, and the increases in readership will follow!

How to Personalise Your Facebook Fan Page URL & Give Your Page a Professional Look

Saturday, February 13th, 2010
CompuGift Facebook Fan Page Logo

CompuGift's Facebook Fan Page Logo

Social media is evolving faster than could have ever been expected even a few months ago. Used in business, it offers you a chance to introduce your company or organisation to new people and get to know your current customers much better. From a marketing standpoint, it is vital that you and/or someone within your organisation do as much inward marketing as possible such as blogging, getting a Twitter account and setting up a Facebook fan page for your business. Here I would like to tell you how to personalise your business Facebook fan page and ensure your fan page has a professional appearance.

If you have ever looked at a fan page on Facebook, you may have noticed that Facebook’s URL is normally followed by a lot of meaningless text and figures. Somewhere hidden in the mess is the company’s name whose fan page it is. Often this company’s name will have been broken up into pieces. The URL is quite long and would look silly printed in a brochure or on a website.

Thankfully, Facebook has done something about it! You can now get a fan page for your company that is much shorter. This can easily be advertised on promotional gifts such as printed stress balls and promotional pens, corporate literature and websites so your customers can remember your Facebook URL and find you quickly and easily.

Here is how it is done.

First, you need to have a personal Facebook account. You cannot set up an anonymous fan page. If you do not already have an account, go to the site and sign up. It is quick and easy and best of all free. Once you have your account, go to facebook.com/pages/create.php which is where you can sign up for your company fan page. Fill in your details and you have a fan page with a silly URL.

Now it is time to make your Facebook URL yours;

  • Get 25 friends and/or customers to become fans of your fan page. In order to have your own personal business Facebook URL, you need to have at least 25 fans.
  • When you have your 25 fans, go to facebook.com/username. Facebook will allow you to choose your URL which will be something like facebook.com/yourcompany
  • Now work on your logo!

Many companies are lax with this part of their fan page. The problem is there are two different picture icons that appear on the page. When you add your logo, it will most likely look very good at the top of the page. However, when you write a comment a reduced version of your logo appears to the left of the comment. More often than not, this reduces your logo and if there is text involved it could make “Yourlogo” look like “ourlog” which I am sure you will agree is hardly ideal.

To fix this fault, you need to purchase an inexpensive art program such as Paint Shop Pro. You can often download art programs on a 30 day free trial. Ensure that the text part of your logo fits within a 175 pixel x 175 pixel square. Once this is done, go to “image” and then “canvas size” and increase the canvas to 200 pixels square. This will give your logo and details a white 15 pixel border. I realise this is technical talk so if you cannot be bothered to do this, ask a professional. It should not be expensive.

Upload this logo to the logo picture area at the left of your page. Whenever you write a comment, it will be shown to the left of your comment without anything getting chopped off in the process.

Would you like to see how I did it? Then visit http://www.facebook.com/compugift, my company’s Facebook page. While you are there, why not become a fan! It would be great to get your feedback. The page will be updated often with similar articles and special offers.

I hope this article was helpful.  I welcome comments on my blog an hope to hear from you soon.

Get More Traffic to you Website Through Article Writing and Promotional Gifts

Friday, January 15th, 2010

You need only visit a few of the popular Article submission sites such as EzineArticles.com to see how seriously people are taking article writing as a part of their site’s search engine optimisation.  Writing top quality articles in your field of expertise can increase the back links to your site which will in turn increase your Google Page Rank and traffic to your website.

This is how it works.  Let’s say you were to write ten top quality articles about a hot topic in your industry.  If you were to submit those articles to EzineArticles.com you would have ten back links to your site.  However, please note that Google will most likely not view these ten links as ten links but as one link because they are coming from the same source.  If you have written informative keyword rich articles, however, there is a good chance your articles will be picked up and used by other online publishers and bloggers interested in your articles’ content.  In order to use your article in their publications, they will be required to link to your site which over time will increase the importance of your website and you as an expert in your field.

There are a lot of so called ghost authors out there making a lot of money writing articles for businesses for this exact reason.  I feel hiring such authors is taking the easy way out.  I would recommend giving it a go yourself if time allows.  It amazes me how often I read articles by people representing my competitors who obviously do not have a clue what they are writing about.  Many low cost ghost writers do not even have a good command of the English language.  This is because business article writing has become a profitable business for people in developing countries.  They know which keywords you want them to incorporate in their articles and they do so while giving the reader very little real or worthwhile information.  Remember you get what you pay for.  If you just do not have the time to write your own articles, please ensure you take an interest and proof read your ghost writer’s articles before allowing them to be submitted.

If you would like to give article writing a go yourself, visit EzineArticles.com and read their editorial guidelines, learn them and follow them!  Once you have done this, read a few articles by your competitors.  Study how they put their articles together.  Some will be very well written while others will be utter nonsense.  It is worth spending a day studying these articles and learning from them before actually writing one yourself.  You will be happy you did and your articles will be better for it.

One of the most important things in article writing is to ensure you do not sell your products or services in the body of the article.  The article body is where you give information about your subject: information which hopefully your reader will find useful.

The chance to sell you products, services and/or facilities is in an area called the Resource Box.  Here you can give information about your company and what it is that make either you and/or your business special.  It is also where you include that all important link back to your website.

Keep you Resource Box text short and to the point.  I recommend that you use this area as a call to action.  I often offer a free promotional pen to people as an incentive to click on my link and register.  This has worked wonders for me and other people I have instructed to do so.  Promotional gifts are excellent for enticing people to do something.  The Promotional gift does not need to be expensive but useful promotional gifts are more popular than gimmicky promotional gifts.  The offer of promotional products such as pens, mugs, mouse mats, books and baseball caps personalised with your logo and details work very well as incentives to get people to your sight once you have captured their interest with your top quality informative article.
